January 2014 started with my election as Clerk of Session.  We also began preparing for Pastor Bill Steven’s retirement at the end of February.  Bill started his last adult study with us on

January 20^th investigating the concept of ‘Agape Love.’  Our

annual congregation and corporation meetings were held on January 12^th.

Champoux, Interim Co-Exec (Eugene) COM-S and Reverend

Kathleen Brinegar, pastor of Community Presbyterian, Oakland, Oregon.  Kathleen was appointed by Presbytery to moderate our Session during our ministerial search.  Ms. Champoux explained the different Pastoral Relationships—interim, designated, stated supply—which apply in our situation and Session voted to seek a Stated Supply to fill the vacancy after Pastor Bill’s retirement.  We scheduled a Special Session meeting on February 19^th to review and update our Pastor Position and Compensation

package which was emailed to Kathleen and Dawn on February 21^st.  After review and a bit of tweaking it was presented by

Kathleen to the COM (S) at their February 28^th meeting. Kathleen notified me of its approval and we subsequently contacted and met with four candidates.  We were blessed during this time of searching to have Reverend Chris Von Lobedan as a

semi-permanent Pulpit Supply.  During our July 8^th Session meeting we voted to extend a contract to Reverend Lloyd (Buck) Tohill, CRE, to become our Stated Supply Pastor

beginning September 7^th, 2014.  Buck was just completing his

pastorate at Olivet Presbyterian Church, Glendale, Oregon.

 

Following our August 31 worship service we honored Reverend Chris and his wife Donna for their support during our pastoral search with a potluck, gifts and special music.

 

Dawn Champoux presided on September 7^th at the Commissioning and Installation Service of Buck as our new pastor.  We

welcomed Buck and Sylvia as the newest members of our

congregation and look forward to a long and productive

association.

 

We have experienced major changes during the past year but

working together we can carry Christ’s message of love and

reconciliation into our congregation, community, country and the world.
